Recently there has been a number of news articles and even tv shows showing the growing number of parents who are pushing their kids in sports. While this is a huge topic of conversation and many different point of views here are some interesting statistics for soccer players. It may help to keep a more realistic view of becoming a professional soccer player. |
18 million soccer players in the US. Over 200 million in the world.
3.8 million are Children ages 6-17 4.5 million Between 18-44
302,000 high school soccer players
The USSF has 2600 professional players listed
There are 12 MLS teams with 360 rostered players
From the NSCAA
Less than three in 50, or about 5.7 percent, of high school senior boys interscholastic soccer players will go on to play men's soccer at a NCAA member institution.
Less than one in 50, or about 1.9 percent, of NCAA senior male soccer players will be drafted by a Major League Soccer (MLS) team.
Approximately one in 1,250, or approximately 0.08 percent of high school senior boys playing interscholastic soccer will eventually be drafted by an MLS team.
